Attendance Policy
ATTENDANCE
Regular attendance and punctuality are essential in providing for the development of personal responsibility and for continuous growth in learning experiences. Time lost from the classroom can never be made up completely since many extras beyond textbook content and completion of assignments contribute to the learning process.
The administration will investigate excessive or questionable absences. If parents need to take a child from school during school hours, arrangements should be made through the office. (Students will not be dismissed unescorted during school hours.) If a student must leave school for any reason, he/she must be escorted by an adult. A student must be present at least one-half of the school instructional day in order to be recorded present for that day (1 1/2 hrs. is considered 1/2 day absent in the school instructional day).

18 Day Attendance Policy
Temple Christian School is committed to the philosophy that in order for quality education to occur, regular attendance is necessary and required. Absence from school is always detrimental to the academic progress of the student. Class discussions and lectures cannot be repeated and make-up tests are very difficult to schedule.
· A student absent 18 days from school in a year (or 10% of the school year) will be referred to the Rock Island County Regional Superintendent of Schools Truancy Division. This policy includes all absences, including those covered by parental excuse with the exception of those initiated by the school.
· Parents will be notified after the thirteenth (13th) absence. Exceptions will be made only if the student has verification of an extended illness documented by a physician. This verification must be turned into the office upon the student’s return to school. (Parents are asked to notify the office when they first learn of the possibility of an extended illness. Arrangements for school work can be made through the main office.) After 3 tardies have been accumulated, it will be considered as a ½ day absence.

· Leaving school without proper clearance from the office.
Remember that an absence that does not meet the 5 acceptable reasons for making up work/tests is coded “unexcused.”
